Admission Requirements and Prerequisites

Outstanding students with a bachelor’s degree who meet the following requirements and prerequisites may enroll in the International MA in Art Therapy:

General Admission Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in the visual arts or social sciences from an accredited institution of higher education in Israel or abroad, diploma and transcript.
    Students with accredited undergraduate degrees from other disciplines will also be considered provided they complete the academic prerequisites.
    All applicants are required complete the prerequisites listed below, regardless of academic background.
  • A minimum of 3.4 GPA or equivalent to 85%
  • English Score: (for candidates have not previously studied at an institution of higher education where the language of instruction is English)
    • TOEFL scores: A minimum of 570 (paper-based test), 230 (computer-based test) or 89 (internet-based test).
    • Israeli applicants: a minimum score of 85% on the University's English Entrance Exam.
  • Supplementary Documents
    • Two recommendations from relevant academic faculty members
    • Curriculum Vitae/Résumé
    • Copy of your valid passport (Not applicable for Israeli applicants)
    • Six passport-sized photos
    • Personal statement (500-750 words)
    • Medical forms (Not applicable for Israeli applicants)
  • Interview (group and/or individual)

Academic Prerequisites* (18 credits)

  • Introduction to Psychology (2 credits)
  • Physio-psychology (2 credits)
  • Personality Theories (2 credits)
  • Developmental Psychology (4 credits)
  • Psychopathology/Abnormal Psychology (4 credits)
  • Research Methods (2 credits)
  • Statistics (2 credits)

Applicants who do not meet the above academic prerequisites may complete missing courses at an accredited institution of higher education. We recommend the University of North Dakota’s Online & Distance Education Division (, but other accredited institutions may be

Each pre-requisite course that was not completed during BA degree studies must receive a final grade of 80 or higher.


Art-Based Prerequisites*
Each candidate will be evaluated on a case by case basis of the completion of 500 hours of training in the visual arts.

The 500 hours are divided as such:

  1. 300 hours of study – these hours are practical studies such as painting, drawing, and sculpture. These must have been studied in an academic framework (university or college) or in a professional/artistic institution approved by the Ministry of Education and/or the Ministry of Culture (Art Center, Museum, etc). The institute must provide a certificate of the studies/completion of hours. It is not possible to study with private teachers.   2. 200 hours of study – These can be from one or more of the following: (a) Art History/Art Theory Courses (maximum 56 hours accepted); (b) Art Hours studied at a place that is not recognized, (ie: not under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and/or the Ministry of Culture) (the teacher of the course must provide a letter/certificate); (c) Studies of Art beyond painting, drawing, and sculpture (jewelry, pottery, photography, sewing, etc.); (d) Art Studies though the framework of workshops (example – experiential courses in education studies that had direct contact with material creation) (maximum 56 hours accepted).

In addition, all applicants must submit a portfolio of 5 printed pages of his/her artwork, or 5 images printed on one page (A4).

Although we do pay attention to an applicant's technical skill, we are much more interested in what your art reflects about you and your ability to use the materials to express yourself.

*Note: Applicants who need to complete missing Academic and/or Arts-Based Prerequisites, must include an official confirmation of enrollment in the missing academic and/or art courses with their application.
