This course provides students with an understanding of core issues in psychotherapy. The course examines the values and ideas that guide professional practice in psychotherapy, including professional codes of conduct and philosophical ethical principles.

Topics include the intake interview, working with the DSM, therapeutic alliance, cultural aspects, and different approaches in psychotherapy (psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral therapy) basic concepts such as transference and counter-transference as well as change mechanisms in psychotherapy.
